![]() The indecision on his face was quickly replaced with defiance. I was pulled out of my reverie for a second and answered, "Uhh sure did you want to lie down or should I?" "You woke me up, are we going to do anything or what?" He was fidgeting a bit, which only made him cuter. He really was cute, even if I'd never say that to his face. My tail started wagging on it's own when I saw him. The light instantly turned the shapeless form before me into the adorable eleven year old German Shepherd cub I was expecting. I knew from experience that it wouldn't be visible under the bedroom door. I carefully angled the small reading light I kept next to my bed and turned it on. The sound of squeaking bed springs was a dead giveaway, and we couldn't chance getting caught. I was already prepared, and spread my comforter and pillow out on the floor next to my bed before he'd crossed the room. I heard his mattress creak and then sound of paws trying to move quietly in the dark. God I hope I'm not this annoying when I'm a teenager." There was another few moments of hesitation until Cody eventually responded with, "Fine I guess we can do it. It was more than okay but I needed it to sound like a concession. "If you want to, I guess that's okay," I said softly. I held back a chuckle, trying not to ruin things. Then, even quieter than before, Cody asked, ".can I play with it tomorrow too?" There were a few long seconds of silence with no response. Besides it's easier if everyone else is in bed." That wasn't a rejection and we both knew it. ![]() "Hmm it's late, why can't you just wait until tomorrow," Cody whispered back. And I'll let you play with it as much as you want." That wasn't really a sacrifice on my part, but I knew it's what he really liked. I knew Cody wasn't really mad, but we still had to play this game so it felt like he was in charge. "What? Mom and Dad are both home, are you crazy? Just do it yourself" do the thing?" I asked as quietly as I could. I heard a bit of movement on the other side of the room, followed an annoyed whisper.
